last day in arequipa

hey anyone, it´s our last day in arequipa! we have been here two weeks now, he longest we have stayed anywhere yet, and I think I am about ready to go. arequipa has been great though. our first week we had our student designed week where we stayed at a hostel and and spent our days exploring the city and going to some museums, and our nights watching movies and playing hostel hide and seek. we went to the santa catalina monastery, which was amazing. it has I hink five achres inside of it´s wall, and it is so old. I will post some pictures eventually, right now this computer is incredibly slow though. our second week we did homestays and more spanish lessons. highlights of the week include making an amazing vegan box cake (chocolate banana, with coconut frosting), and going out last night to what we thought was a young person salsa club, but when we got there, there were only a few middle aged people dancing (one guy was just playing the air guitar), so we left and went to a restaurant where I got the most amazing strawberry smoothie, and people ate french fries. tonight we leave for cuzco on a night bus. I am looking forward to cuzco. I have done a bit of research and there is apparently an amazing falafel place where they put french fries in the falafels, and a place hat sells only dairy free chocolate. yay! well, next week is our last week, so I might pos one more time, but after that, I will be home!

wow, this blog does not work at all. I tried to post some pictures, it wouldn´t let me, so I wrote a post. it only published the title, and added a random picture. I give up for now. I´ll try again tomorrow.

Bariloche

Hola from Bariloche everybody!

We got here on sunday after taking a 22 hour bus ride, that ended up taking 24 hours. it was pretty cool though, we were on the top layer so we had a great view, and the ride was beautiful. I saw so many cool animals out the windows. I saw a rhea, which is an enourmous bird that looks like a ostrich and is native to south america, and something that looked like a squirrel/cat/fox/weasel. It was pretty cool. We slept on the bus, and when we got to Bariloche we had to walk to our homestays. It is beautiful in Bariloche though. Sooo BEAUTIFUL!! It is right on an enourmous lake that is surrounded mountains. I like it so much than Buenos Aires. While in Bariloche are doing homestays and four hours of spanish lessons each day. Spanish lessons are a lot of fun. Our teacher is named Flavia, and she is really nice. Most of the week we have just been going to spanish lessons and walking around the town. Also, we eat sandwiches every day for lunch. There is this sandwich place where you design your own sandwich. I always get the same thing, lettuce, advocado, cucumber (which is actually pickles), and tomatoes. It is amazing. The family that me and a few other people are staying with are pretty nice. There is a dude named Roberto, who speaks a lot of english, and his wife Kuky, who doesn´t speak any english. There is another girl staying there as well. She graduated from college a couple years ago, and will be in south america for a few more months. There is an amazing view out the window of my bedroom, right out over the lake. I sure wish I had a camera. I found some here in Barilche, but the price is super inflated, so I don´t know if I want to get one. I guess I better decide, since we leave saturday for chile. well, I guess that´s all for now, next time I post I will be on the chilean coast!

Hasta luego!

Hola everyone, it is our last full day in Buenos Aires. It´s been a amazing week. I don´t have any pictures (hopefully I will soon), but I will tell you what has been happening. Monday: our first tango class! Our teacher is amazing. Her name is Alicia, she travels all around the world teaching tango, and she is hilarious. She is always telling us to “remember the freeway”, and to have “more batteries”. it is awesome. Tuesday: we went to the cemetary where Evita is buried. We were on a tour with an english speaking tour guide, but you couldn´t really hear what she was saying, so a few of us split off from the tour and went walking around by ourselves. It was really cool, the mausaleums were incredible. Some of them had broken windows, and you could look inside and see the coffins. There were flowers and paintings inside some of them. And there were also cats everywhere! The tour guide told us why the cats were there, but I couldn´t hear. It was pretty cool though, you would walk around a corner and there was a cat there, lounging on the stairs to a tomb. After that we walked to a book store that was originally a opera house. It was incredible. The stage was turned into a cafe and everywhere else had books. Then we had more tango. Wednesday: was a chillaxing day. I went to the internet cafe in the morning, and then went back to the apartment. Some people went to a cafe that was near the tango place, but me and a couple other people stayed behind, then met up at tango. Thursay: I got sick! I had a fever all night and slept really badly. When I woke up, I felt terrible, and we were supposed to go on a walking tour of Buenos Aires. I thought about skipping it, but I just took an ibuprofen and went. The tour was nice, even though I was super tired. It was led by a woman named Mercedes who was very nice. We walked around Buenos Aires for a bit, with her pointing out intresting buildings and telling us about Argentine history, and then we took a bus to La Boca, which is the poorer district which has the colored houses. We were only there for a little bit, but it was really cool. After that we had another tango lesson. It was a really fun lesson, even though I felt awful, we learned some cool stuff. Tomorrow we leave for Bariloche. I don´t know when I´ll blog next, so adios untill then! jalen p.s. the actual tumblr site wasn´t working, so I am emailing this in. I have never done it before, so I hope it works.

buenos aires!

Hey Everyone! well, I am in Buenos Aires! We arrived here yesterday, and did a little bit of napping before going to walk around. It is really hot! Or maybe it just feels like it compared to oregon. Also I keep forgetting my sunglasses at the apartment. Today we start our tango lessons, which means taking the subway, something I have never done before, so that should be fun. The internet cafe is right around the corner from our apartments, so I should be posting pretty frequently, but unfortunetely, my camera was stolen. on the first day. which is terrible enough as it is, but I also am unable to post pictures. So goodbye untill next time!

so this is the place I will be posting pictures and what not from my trip! keep checking back to see more stuff!
